Our Story

Rooted in Story. Grown Through Community.

I’m Emily Rich — a longtime Petaluma resident, mother of three, and lifelong creative with an entrepreneurial heart.
For me, design has always been about connection: the way a personalized item can carry a story, evoke a memory, or bring people together.

Before founding Richly Rooted, I spent almost a decade building Village Child, a children’s boutique centered on small-batch, ethically sourced goods. That experience taught me the value of original design and the beauty of community—the fulfillment that comes from knowing your clients, celebrating families, and supporting local.

Recently, I found myself craving a deeper synergy between home life and creative work. I wanted to build something personally sustainable—not just as a business, but as a lifestyle.

Richly Rooted was born from that vision: a design and print studio where storytelling, family, and my entrepreneurial spirit can coexist naturally, creating meaningful work that’s as personal as it is professional.

What We Believe.

At Richly Rooted, everything begins with intention.
We believe the things we create should reflect the people and stories behind them; whether it’s a school spirit tee, a family reunion patch, or helping a small business launch.

Our work is guided by three simple principles:

Community. We believe in staying local whenever possible — working with our Sonoma County neighbors, small suppliers, and other makers who care about quality as much as we do. Collaboration keeps creativity grounded and relationships meaningful.

Connection. Every project tells a story. We take the time to understand yours — who you are, what you’re building, and how you want people to feel when they hold or wear what we’ve created together.

Craftsmanship. We make things that last — not just physically, but emotionally. Every print, patch, and vessel carries the care of a small studio that values patience, precision, and heart.

We don’t rush the process. We celebrate it — the quiet rhythm of hatching an idea, the pride of seeing a design come to life, and the joy of knowing it will be worn, shared, and loved.

A Family-Run Studio.

Our studio isn’t a warehouse — it’s a living, breathing part of our home life.
Between the hum of the heat press, the chatter of our kids, and the golden Petaluma light streaming in through the workshop windows, you’ll find a rhythm that’s equal parts business and family.

We built this space to work with our life, not against it.
It’s where creativity fits between school drop-offs and family dinners, where our children see what it means to build something from the ground up, and where each design carries a little piece of the world we’re raising them in.

Every shirt pressed, every patch stitched, and every custom design shipped out the door is touched by our family’s hands and energy.
It’s slow work, steady work, and deeply meaningful work — a reminder that good things take time and heart.

Join Our Story.

Richly Rooted is more than a print studio — it’s a creative partnership between people who care about story and substance.

Whether you’re launching a new business, outfitting your school or youth sports community, or creating something special for your family, we’d love to help you bring it to life.
Our process is personal, collaborative, and grounded in care — because no project is ever “just an order” to us. It’s a story waiting to be told.
